Collection apparently derives from Derwent Wood's wife Florence, chiefly comprised of general correspondence of Francis and Florence Derwent Wood, with a number of casting estimates and invoices (1926-1927), with an illustrated page from a notebook (n.d.), photographs of Wood and his work, and printed ephemera (1926) related to his memorial service and exhibition.

The Welsh artist Augustus John was a successful painter and draftsman, and a well known bohemian figure. He was in great demand as a portraitist, although his works were often controversial. During WWI he was employed by the Canadian government as a war artist in France. John visited the United States as a guest of the Carnegie Institute in 1923.
